My question is what did my maths teacher do there, where did she get f(x) = ax^2+b from, and why did she do that?

she got ax²+b as the parabola has no horizontal shift, only vertical shift

#

you know b because it's 5m tall

and you know the X intercepts so you can form the quadratic

no, it has 2 due to the properties of quadratics

so she just put in the numbers in place

oh and the 1.6 is because it is symmetric and 3.2/2 is 1.6

so the 0 points are at -1.6 and 1.6
