it's a quadratic function so
f(x) = ax² + bx + c
just plug in each x and f(x) value one by one to solve for a, b, and c

3=a+c-b
-1=9a-3b+c

#

3=25a-5b+c

#

a=1
b=6
c=8
f(x)=x^2+6x+8

That seems about right

For this particula question, this is a shortcut method

#

Notice how f(-1) and f(-5) are equal

#

Its therefore symmetrical about the average of -1 and -5 which is -3

#

So i just shifter the graph by -3 units

#

Which is why f(x) became a(x+3)^2 +c

#

So now theres only 2 variables and its easier to solve

#

But be careful to only use this when symmetry can be noticed in the points
