Hey all, I'm having issues planting saplings in specific spots on the farm, and I'm hoping someone smarter might be able to figure out why. I've read the Tree and Sapling info post thoroughly and spent hours scratching my head, but I still can't figure out why I just can't plant my saplings in very specific spots.

As you can see in the screenshot, there's plenty of space around the square I'm trying to plant in, and I can plant in literally every other square surrounding the one I want. There are a few areas around the farm that simply refuse to allow me to plant a sapling, that don't seem to follow any pattern. The issue stays if I try different saplings, if I sleep, and even if restart the game.

All I want is one apple tree. Any bright ideas?

This might be related to how sapling placement works, since fruit trees need a full 5x5 clear area on untilled ground. However, from your screenshots, it looks like only certain specific tiles are affected while the surrounding ones work fine, which is a bit unusual.

Just to double check, you can try:

  • Making sure all the tiles are untilled
  • Re-clearing the surrounding area
  • Trying a slightly different spot nearby
