"Help me find my tools!" Duplication bug

Bug Report: Osmium Tool Duplication & Enchantment Loss

Reproduction Steps:

1. Upgrade any tool to Osmium
2. Give the Osmium tool (with enchantment) to another player
3. While the other player is holding your original tool, use the "Help me find my tools!" option on your bed

• Make sure to select the specific tool that you gave to the other player and is currently in their possession
• Since there are 7 essential tools in the game, this bug can be performed with any of them

4. A duplicate Osmium tool will be returned to you

• The duplicated tool (the one you receive and hold) will have no enchantment
• The original enchanted tool remains with the other player

Reproduction Rate:
100% - occurs every time when following the steps above

Thanks for sending the video! I’ve shared it with the team, and after checking, this is actually intended for now.

Since there’s no tool ownership system in multiplayer yet, the game can’t determine whose tools should be taken. To avoid accidentally taking items from someone else’s inventory or storage, the system adds a separate copy of the item to your inventory by design, which is why you see two. This only happens in multiplayer though, single-player won’t have this issue!

Hello @chrome kraken Does this mean it’s normal to have 10 gold axes in one save? How do I get rid of the extra axes?

Hi hi! Would you be able to share a video from your friend’s perspective as well?

The team took a look and we’ll need to investigate this a bit more. From your video, it looks like the gold axe is in the Fungurian chest and then suddenly disappears, which is a bit confusing on our end 😅
We’re thinking your friend might’ve picked it up into their inventory, but we’re not 100% sure yet. A video from their side would really help us confirm! ✨

Hi @wide current Yes, the other player must pick up your axe for it to be duplicated. I asked them to pick up my gold axe so I could duplicate it.

Steps:

1. Place your gold axe in a chest, then have the other player pick it up
2. Use the "Help me find my tools!" option on your bed and select "Gold Axe" — it will be duplicated

This allows me to produce an infinite number of gold axes. Note that the 4 axes shown in the chest in the video are all mine. The other player’s axes have not been upgraded yet.

From your latest screenshot, we noticed the normal axe got duplicated as well. Did your friend do the same steps as before? Like you took the axe, then they went to bed and used “Help me find my tools”? 😮

@wide current Those two normal axes belong to the two guest players. I just borrowed them to show that their axes have not been upgraded in our save. You can still duplicate normal axes, but it doesn’t provide any benefit since it will only fill up your inventory.

Note: If you duplicate a tool with an enchantment, the duplicated tool you receive will not have any enchantment.
