I'm trying to do Jim's Night fish quest. Admittingly I do not fish a lot so I am only level 3 but I have a gold rod and catching most fish when I need to hasn't been a problem until this dang Arapaima.

I'm in fall and according to the wiki and coral guide the fish should be able to be caught in the river just outside the mine any time any weather.

I have spent several whole days fishing, literally up to my eyeballs in giant snake heads and Sockeye Salmon or whatever. But not a single Arapaima. I've stayed all the way up until like 11:30 because unlike the wiki and guide the game itself claims that they prefer the night time but still nothing.

What's going on? Is the lie that they are available diluting the fall and I need to wait? Have I just been insanely unlucky? Is it a skills issue? Please help lol

They're available in rain/snow in fall and winter.

They're available in any weather in spring and winter in the deep forest, and any weather or season in the savannah.

they do in fact exist. they are also "rare". try using bait and traps. also try in savannah as thehere they are all year long

Also try to get large fish shadows. If a small fish bites your line and there's a large shadow, just wait for the small fish to unhook instead of fishing it up.

Sorry this is an old post but guess what I finally got an arapaima. Best part? I wasn't even (actively) fishing, I took Pablo on a hangout there to see his event 😂 apparently Pablo is my good luck charm!
