monkfish?

I'm not sure if this is just me, but I cannot find the monkfish for the life of me. I've tried at least 8 times from 4pm to midnight fishing with a bronze fishing pole and I have not been able to get 1 monkfish on the line. I am fishing at the appropriate location, season, and weather but it is still not showing up. Is it just me? Where are the monkfish hiding? 😢

it is spring year 1 day 14. I've restarted the day several times

I also tried on day 12 and 13, but was not getting any bites

I'm fishing in the ocean forest area near the giant's village on the log bridge

the weather has been sunny

i'm not sure if it's a bug or if the rng gods are just laughing at me

Right place, right time. It’s RNG. Monkfish is legendary so it is harder to catch it.
But you will see when the legendary fish spawn in an area now. They have big silhouettes and sparkle. That’s your chance then

i've seen that maybe twice, but they are never the ones that bite my line and then they disappear when I try again after that

i guess I'll just keep restarting the day then

Since Monkfish is a legendary fish, you’ll know it’s available when you see a sparkling spot in the water. Could you confirm if you’ve seen the sparkling fish where you’re trying to catch it? 😮

I have seen a large sparkling fish twice swimming around but it’s not the one that bites my line. I have caught small sparkling fish but those are coffers

Ahh yup yup! It needs to be the large sparkling fish for a chance to catch a legendary one ✨🐟
Maybe try using some fish bait to increase your chances? 🙂

But on the bright side, maybe this is a good time to upgrade your gear! 💪
Next Spring, you’ll be able to go for it again, especially with an osmium fishing pole and large fish bait. You’ve got this!!

for OP? probably. i got such an errand in the first week of spring, year 1, in my current playthrough. of course, i just cancelled it after finding out it's a legendary fish from the wiki.

Ahh, if you still have a backup save file from when you accepted the errand, we can definitely take a look at it (as long as you’re playing on Steam)!

Wait. Are we not supposed to get errands that are near-impossible or impossible to complete because of our current progress? I thought that was just losing in RNG.
I just shared my save files in another thread today, but I'm not sure if any of the backups are from the time I accepted the errand. I gotta check first.

Oh myy! I thought it was for an errand at first 😅 and hopefully you can complete everything in the first year (for Monkfish, you can always focus on that in the second year). You’ve got this!! 💪

As a tip: you don't have to fish up the shadow that bites your line first. You can wait for them to detach and another shadow to hook on until you get the one you want, as long as the one you want is one of the shadows currently on screen.
