Blackscreen on reaching level 40 in the earth mine

I play on PS5, when I reached level 40 in the mine my screen went black and I can't do anything. The background music is still playing

Just to clarify — did the crash happen right after the game loaded Floor 40, or did it occur when you interacted with something on that floor?

No the floor started loading and you could hear the elevator opening but the screen kept being black

It didn't matter what button I pressed or combination of buttons I couldn't get anything to happen

It also didn't give me the save icon in the corner of the screen if that helps

To clarify I didn't come with the elevator I came from a ladder from the previous floor to level 40

Just to check, have you tried restarting the game and playing again after that happened?

What can I do if it happens again tho? Do I have to forcibly close the game again?

Hello! Unfortunately, if the black screen happens again, there isn’t much you can do right now besides closing the game as we’re still investigating this and haven’t been able to pinpoint the trigger yet. So sorry for this!

I know this is really frustrating to hear. I can imagine how much progress you can make in a single day, only for it to get stuck and force a reload.

But you could try crafting a rope or buying one from the B.O.S. Hideout (if you’ve unlocked it). Using a rope lets you go down a level immediately, so you don’t have to break rocks one by one. It can really help you get to the bottom of the issue faster and check whether the problem is actually caused by level 40 or if something else triggers it.

Oh that's actually a really good idea to make ropes bc level 35 doesn't have an elevator, and I was dreading to go mining again. Thanks for the help and hopefully you can find out what causes it

Yup, totally get it! I’ve been there too, and it really does take a whole day to get from level 30 to 40 so I know exactly how that feels.
And yeah, if the black screen still happens even after using a rope to get to level 40, please let us know again!

This looks like an edge case, so the team is still figuring out what’s causing it and how to reliably reproduce it

An edge case is an issue that only happens when very specific conditions or actions trigger it.

For example, when we tried to replicate your case by going straight to the Earth Mine and descending directly to the 40th floor, the issue didn’t occur. That’s why we’re trying to figure out what specific trigger causes it.

The trigger could be anything: which buttons were pressed, what activities players did during mining, or even something they did before entering the mine. With so many possible variables, small details can make a big difference in causing the black screen issue 😊
