#"Launch of PickStarter" Cutscene Not Triggering After Game Crash

Reproduction Steps

  • Reached the milestone of 50 donations to the Museum.
  • Entered the Museum; the cutscene triggered correctly, showing several characters discussing the achievement.
  • During the cutscene, I closed my laptop to attend to work (My bad, completely my fault). Upon returning a couple of hours later, the game was completely frozen.
  • I had to force-restart the computer. Since the day hadn't been saved, I reloaded the game.
  • Upon returning to the Museum on the same (reloaded) day and subsequent days, the cutscene no longer triggers.

Note: Other NPCs in town are interacting with me as if the event had already happened, congratulating me on the Pickstarter's success, but the quest remains stuck in my log.

I have read on subreddits that some players experienced this and it triggered randomly later, while others reached 200+ donations without success.

I am concerned this will soft-lock future Museum-related quests.

In case my save file is corrupted, what is the correct way to reset the game or start over? I want to ensure that if I start a new save, the cutscene will trigger correctly when I reach that point again and that no 'ghost' data from the previous crash interferes with the new game.

I am not using any mods. This is a fresh install from a few weeks ago.

Repro Rate 1/1 (Occurred once, but the state is now persistent in the save file).

Game Platform Steam on PC.

Game Version v1.2b-1245

Input Mode PS4 Controller on PC.

I apologize for any mistakes; English is not my native language, and this is the first time in my life I've ever reported a bug in a game, hehe.

Team is on a holiday break right now, so they’ll check your report later. But I would advise also attaching your backup files. They’re in the same place as your save file but in the backup folder

Hello @sweet skiff, thanks so much for sending such detailed information, it’s really a pleasure to read! 💖 And no worries at all about your English, it’s very clear and easy to understand 😊

Regarding the issue, it’s definitely strange that the cutscene still won’t trigger even after reloading the save file on the same exact day. Do you remember what the in-game date was when the cutscene first triggered? 😮

Also, have you tried reloading a save from one day earlier and then progressing to the next day (the day the cutscene is supposed to trigger) to see if it works normally?

# sweet skiff Thanks for your prompt response, happy holidays, I hope I'm not interrupting any...

It’s totally fine, and wishing you a happy holiday as well! goatlove2

We’ve checked your save file, and unfortunately the earliest backup available is from Summer 3 🙁 We tried going straight to the museum from there, but the cutscene didn’t trigger. Based on our checks, it seems the cutscene likely happened before Summer 3, as on Summer 4 we could see a letter indicating that the Pickstarter was already in progress.

We also fast-forwarded your current save to Summer 15, where the museum expansion cutscene triggered immediately upon stepping outside the house, and the quest completed as expected. So thankfully, this confirms that future museum-related quests aren’t soft-locked laugh2

As for the cutscene not triggering again after reloading the same day, we’ll take note of this and flag it for the team to investigate once they’re back from the holiday. We’ll also keep an eye out for similar reports 👀

Thanks so much for your patience and for sharing this with us!
