On a co-op server, as the host, my character attacked and killed an enemy and then proceeded to get locked into this animation to which I am frozen. I cannot escape to MM or access inventory. My friend can still roam and move and play as normal. Upon end of day, my character was then able to walk and move and interact, however the player model was locked in the same attacking animation. Odd Bug indeed.

Repo steps: Kill an enemy and get unlucky i suppose. I don't know whether the fact the 'traverse deeper hole' has anything to do with it. FYI, it was a rock there and not the hole. My friend broke the rock that showed the hole post bug to see if it would 'unstuck me'.

Rate: First time this happened.

Date & Time: Spring 23, as for time, this is unknown, my Hud disappeared. I would guess close to 21:00.

Players & Platform: 2 players, both on steam. I am the host.

Build: v1.2b - 1245

You don’t need to separate the co-op and solo save files on your end. We’ll be able to identify the correct ones from our side, so everything you shared is perfectly fine.

Just a few quick questions to help us narrow this down:

  • Before the issue happened, did you get attacked by any monsters?
  • Do you recall which monster you defeated just before it occurred?
  • Were you charging your weapon at that time?
  • Do you remember which mine floor you were on when the issue happened?

  1. no i was not hit during the fight, i attacked it with 2 hits killing it on the 2nd hit.

  2. it was a fire skully

  3. no. It was 2 basic, left click, attacks.

  4. i do not remember the exact floor level. I believe it was around the 20-30 mark. But I do recall it was the fire mine

I've tried recreating it but I've had no success as of yet. Granted, I've only tried recreating it in SP and not MP. So I suppose that's one good sign.

Hello, so I think I'm relatively close to brute forcing the bug again but I'm not 100% certain. I noticed that when I swing the hammer and strike an enemy, there is a brief pause in the swing animation (upon hitting an enemy) which I believe to be the same frame/moment in which the bug can occur. I tested the sword and spear also and noticed the same brief delay when striking the enemy.

In the hammer clip , there is a slightly longer 'buffer' or 'delay' when you strike an enemy in comparison to the sword and spear. I don't think the enemy type has a significant impact on the bug. More so the weapon. I assume this given the length of 'buffer' or 'delay' each weapon has.

I also figured out that during any attack animation you cannot interact with a 'traverse deeper hole'. I tested this by attacking and spamming right click on a hole.

Similarly to this, you cannot press the 'escape key' and open the menu during an attack. However, you can access the menu screen during an attack if you 'alt+tab' which I thought was odd, but also potentially a part to the bug because when the bug occurred originally I do believe I attacked, killed, then alt tabbed out to pause a video, alt tabbed back in and then I got animation locked.

for me it happened in the fire shaft when attacking a regular slime that was launched from an advanced slime while it was still midair (just about to hit the ground) I was able to reproduce it like 10 times in a row reloading the game between attempts.

if i attacked the slime after it hit the ground it was fine.

Interesting, did you get stuck and unable to move also?

i was stuck in one place, unable to change my held item, could still turn in place.

also weirdly the first time it happened i could not be damaged but after that each attempt to reproduce left me vulnerable to attacks sometimes.

What is interesting is, you've been able to reproduce the bug. I have not had that same luck

i literally just walk into fire shaft, and destroy those weird rocks with orange in them until i find an advanced slime, ( i was doing this to farm slime goop btw) i left the advanced slime alone but would bait it to launch out slimes, when it does if you try to attack the small slimes as they hit the ground this issues happens.

@clever kiln @zenith totem Heyo! Thanks to @karmic haven they were able to explain how the bug occurs and I've managed to also replicate the bug in action (see above).
As Akai mentioned, when striking the spawning slime just as they about to land, you encounter this stuck animation and cannot move or escape to menu. Slightly different to my original bug, but is essentially the same (only difference is the HUD being present, and the enemy in question, mine was a fire skully)
Big shout-out to Akai for figuring out how to replicate it 🫡

hi i got the same bug twice, also flame sword and fighting slimes in the cavern. it made my character stuck in a scary looking way lol
i waited for the slimes to kill me and to pass out at 3am, the game saved as normal but the next day the character was still like this, after reload everything looks good again

My thread was closed, but here is what happened to me.

  • Title
    Flame Sword Combo Causes Character to Lock in Animation

  • Reproduction Steps
    While in the mines, my character locks into the last combo used with the flame sword. Either the big spin move or a the final step of the regular combo. I then have to wait until I pass out to get to a save point. Pressing start or select does not work. I can go into my menu. I tried unequipping the sword. That did not work. I have to pass out. It’s insane.

    Every time that I go to the mines and attack an enemies with a combo.
