#Missing MP save file after new update

I last played on November 30, 2025. We were in the last week of Fall Year 1. Everything saved and we stopped playing for the night. I updated the game 2 days ago. Today (December 5, 2025) I launched the game and went into co-op. My save file was there, along with my character.

I clicked on it and the opening game cutscene began to play for whatever reason. My character was in there (I didn't go through the character creator again) and I was being re-introduced to my house for whatever reason. I held F twice to skip but it kept going so I quit to the Main Menu. Once I quit, my save file for MP was gone. I have legit no idea what to do. I also don't have a solo file

Tried Solutions:

  • I tried to restore from Steam Cloud but this game doesn't distinguish between save states so Steam Cloud is just a hodge-podge. I tried to download the save file from Steam Cloud from November 30th and put it in the Saves folder but the game doesn't recognize it
  • I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game from Steam and that didn't do anything either

POTENTIAL SOLUTION
This has worked for me but I cannot guarantee it's success. Keep in mind, I don't have multiple saves active at the moment so it's a little easier for me. I also have Steam Cloud enabled and am on Windows 11

  • On PC, Windows search "%appdata%" fully and open first link (type the WHOLE thing, it should open the File Explorer)
  • At the top, click where it says "App Data" to get out of "Roaming"
  • Select "Local" folder
  • Scroll and find "Project Coral"
  • Click on Saved > SaveGames
  • You should see a folder called "Backup" as well as a Save File called "DailySave_0.sav"
  • Open "Backup" and find the "SaveBackup" save file that is the latest/the one you want
  • COPY that file and paste it into the Folder beforehand (the SaveGames folder)
  • DELETE "DailySave_0.sav" in the SaveGames folder
  • RENAME the file you copied and pasted into "DailySave_0.sav"
  • Start the game, it should be there

This should solve the problem. I have no idea if this is a permanent solution but for now, this seems to have worked

Hello @ornate ermine, thanks for sending us a report! It’s kinda scary how your save just suddenly disappeared like that Duck_Scream_Emoji

So just to confirm: you opened the game to continue your existing save, and then the game treated it like a brand-new file, making you redo character creation? And after quitting, the save was completely gone? Is that right? 😮

Hey so not entirely. When I continued my existing MP save, it played the opening cutscenes where I show up on a boat and the Mayor takes me to show me my house. But it did NOT make me go through the chraracter creation again, it still showed me my save's character. When I quit mid-way through the second cutscene, the save was completely gone
