#Multiplayer crash when building farm buildings

I went to the carpenter's in the afternoon to build a coop and a barn, and the game crashed when I tried to place the barn. One of my co-farmers was running around the area I was trying to place it and cutting grass and such to clear space while I was doing so, which might have contributed to the crash. We haven't had a chance to replay the day again, so I'm not sure which steps to take to reproduce it. I didn't remember to get the .txt file, but I did take a screenshot of the crash report. I am playing version 1.2-1243, on PC/Steam with mouse and keyboard.

Hello @molten osprey,
I'm sorry to hear about the crash. Thank you for letting us know about this!

#

Could you let us know the in-game date when the issue occurred? Also, are you the host of the session?

molten osprey

It happened on Summer 4, and I am the host.

Copy that! Could you send your save file and crash log to us?

Here’s how to find it:

  • Open File Explorer
  • Copy and paste this path into the address bar:
    %localappdata%\ProjectCoral\Saved\SaveGames
  • This is where your save files are stored.
  • For the crash log, go to the Crashes folder inside the Saved folder, and send the file with the date modified matching the time of the crash.

Feel free to zip the files and upload them here. Thank you so much for your help!

OK! Do you want the whole SaveGames folder or just the one save file for that day?

Sure thing, here's the backup folder!

There are three players in our session, myself and two friends. My memory's a bit fuzzy, but I believe it happened while I was still moving the barn around on the farm trying to find a spot for it. The game lagged for a few seconds, then crashed before I could actually place the barn.

Hmm, I want to say it was player 2? But I'm afraid I'm not 100% sure. The other player might have been on the farm, but only one was actively running around the area.

#

I mean, I know which player was running around but I don't know if she was registered as player 2 or 3. Does that change for every session or is it locked into place when they first join? If it's the second I can tell you which it was after we play again and I can check which one is which.

I see! No worries at all — any info is still really helpful. 🙌
The order of player 2 and 3 should stay the same each time you load the save file.

If you get a chance to play again and can replicate the issue, could you please share a short video from both your POV and the guest player’s POV showing how it happens? That would really help the team reproduce the crash more accurately.

You can also use Steam’s built-in recording feature if that’s easier ( here’s how to use it: #1405500927292477561 message)

In the meantime, I’ll relay this to the team for checking it too. Thank you so much for your help! 🙏

OK, I'll let you know which one it was after we play next! And I'll turn on recording to see if we can catch it if it happens again. 😃

OK, so we messed around with it a bit and found some interesting things!

We went ahead and went to the carpenter's shop in the morning this time, and I repeated what I did by first placing a coop and then a barn. While I was moving the barn around a version of the barn popped up on the farm that the two of them could interact with and go inside, even though I hadn't placed it yet. After they did so they repeatedly crashed out of the game after a bit, although this time it did not crash me as the host. After a few minutes of this I placed the barn when they weren't interacting with it, and it did so without crashing the game on my end. They were able to rejoin and finish out the day with no other issues we could find, and it saved overnight. One of my friends typed up her experience in her own words, featured below:

"I was on the farm when a friend was at the carpenter's placing a chicken coop. I could NOT see a preview of the chicken coop on the farm as she was placing it and the construction ropes appeared once she had placed it to be built. However, she then moved onto placing a barn, which I could see. The preview of the barn appeared as a fully built barn that I count enter and interact with objects inside. I entered and exited the barn, and when I exited, I had stepped out from a place several feet away from the physical building. I think this might be because the physical preview of the barn is in a different place than the one my friend was placing at the Carpenter's.
I have tried this twice and the first time I did it, the game crashed when I went to exit the barn. This time, however, the game crashed when I interacted with the animal board in the upper right corner of the barn."

Both me and my other friend got some video of the issue too. I've attached my friend's clip here, but mine is too big to send via discord and doesn't show much except me wiggling the barn around. If you want me to send it anyway just let me know!

Hi! Thanks so much for the detailed findings — this is super helpful.

Could you please share the video from your POV via Google Drive and give access to our email support@stairwaygames.com? That would help us take a closer look.

Also, for the guest who encountered the crash — were they playing on Steam? If so, and if an Unreal Engine crash log popped up, could they also share the crash log file with us?
It would be really useful for our investigation.

Thank you again for all the testing you’ve done!

OK, I've sent along the video from my POV to your email! I've also asked my friends if they can share their crash logs with me, and I'll pass those along if they do. 😃
