Marry NPC or marry fellow player?

Curious how the game treats both and whether it makes more sense to marry NPC vs. the a fellow real player?

1.) Like does your house consolidate if you marry a human or still stay separate?

2.) Can you have kids?

3.) Do NPC's give any perks that a real player does not?

4.) Any other considerations?

1. no, you keep your own houses, but you can sleep in either
2. yes
3. no, other than sometimes a gift in the morning
4. marrying a friend does not seem to trigger marriage achievements
