Game launch menu stuck on black screen

• Reproduction Steps When I launch the game, after the epilepsy warning the screen goes black. I can hear the music and when I press the windows key I see the screen and can move the cursor, but when I minimize the start menu the screen freezes.

• Repro Rate Every time

• Game Platform Steam

• Game Version 1.2 1239

• Input Mode I have tried both with keyboard and with a PS4 controller (I have tried with default settings, steam input enabled, and steam input disabled)

Could you tell us when the last time you were able to open the game without any issues?
Did this problem start after you did anything specific (like updating a driver or installing new software)?

Also, have you tried updating your graphics card drivers and verifying the game files yet? Sometimes those two steps can fix a lot of problems!

Hi thanks for the response! I’m pretty new to the game, I was able to play for a few hours the first time I logged in but the second time I tried to open it the issue started. I have verified the game files. I don’t believe anything was installed between the first time opening and the second. It looks like my graphics driver released an update last week, I will update that and let you know if that fixes it

Thanks for letting us know and for already updating your drivers and verifying the game files.
Could you try to force Borderless/Windowed Mode for Coral Island to see if that resolves the issue?

Here's how:

• Right-click Coral Island in Steam → Properties → Launch Options, and add:
  -windowed

• Launch the game and see if it refreshes normally.

If that helps, you can switch to Borderless Window in the in-game settings. Let us know how it goes!

Ahh, I see. Have you tried turning off any overlays that might be messing things up?

• Steam → Settings → In-Game → turn off “Enable Steam Overlay.”
• Discord → Settings → Game Overlay → toggle it off.

Hi @brave roost! When I turned off the overlays the game loaded properly but my controller no longer works

Hi @brave roost I just tried loading it again and when I disconnect my external display via HDMI it works so I think it might have something to do with that, any way to get it to work on my external display?
