I’m so sorry you ran into this. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We've received a similar report, too!
We found that the issue happens if you use up all your stamina the day before, right up until you’re about to pass out and the screen turns grey.

The team is already working on a fix, so hang tight!

In the meantime, a temporary workaround is to avoid letting your stamina run out completely. If you’re already on the festival day and it doesn’t trigger, reloading the game should make the festival start properly.
