Me and my boyfriend (the host) have been playing a while and are currently town rank E, we both upgraded our houses and wanted to adopt pets but when i went it said only the host can do it. After he adopted one for me he tried to adopt one for himself but now it says "You have to place a pet bed first" even tho we both have one placed. Can you only adopt one pet in general at this stage of the game? Or is it player specific and this is a bug?

Only the host can adopt in multiplayer.
Additionally, in order to adopt additional pets (in singleplayer or as the host), you must upgrade your house - once for the second pet, twice for the third.
