#Game freezing and locking up computer

I downloaded this game a week or so ago but it constantly (once every 1-3hrs of gameplay) crashes and freezes up my computer, needing a restart. No crash logs are generated when it does this and it happens randomly when I'm walking around in game. Drivers were updated a couple days ago. The only thing it seemed to change was I stopped getting the "unreal engine crash" message.

I'm playing on Steam single player (too afraid to try multi-player with all the freezing and crashing.)

I'm running an nvidia RTX 4070

Hello @stark cypress,
Sorry about the crash, and thank you for your report! 🙏

To help us check this further, could you please share your device specs with us? You can get them by:

  • Press Windows + R → type dxdiag → press Enter.
  • In the window that opens, take a screenshot of the System tab (for CPU/RAM).
  • Then go to the Display tab and take a screenshot there too (for GPU).

Also, could you let us know your in-game display settings as well?
If you can share those screenshots here, it will help us investigate more clearly. Thank you! 🙌

Here you go. It happens randomly...when I'm walking around, it just locked up again in the cavern. At best I seem to be able to make it 2 days in game, no matter what I'm doing. Its just weird I can run BG3 and Dragon Age at full graphics, no problem.

Oh, and i have my graphics card set to use the RTX 4070 exclusively- not hybrid or integrated.

Sigh. Just now I got an unreal engine crash. Since the crash locks up my whole system, though, I can't send a report so here's a photo

If it’s any consolation, post update times aren’t normally nearly as messy bug wise. I’ve been off and on since the game was in alpha and this has been the most frustrating time but I know the devs are trying to get everything in a timely manner 🫶

Also having some freezing but luckily not this bad on just steamdeck and only since hotfix. I have it happen twice a day irl but I’m currently bed bound so that’s twice in 6-12 hour days.

Just adding to this: in the last 24 hrs it's gotten drastically worse. I'm lucky if I can play 10 minutes irl before it freezes and crashes. Now it's started going to a black screen with the music playing, still frozen and hanging there until I restart the computer. Like before, there doesn't seem to be a specific trigger. Mostly it happens when I'm just randomly walking around. I did update my graphics drivers again since my initial post, since Nvidia came out with a new one, but it definitely hasn't improved anything.

Hello there @stark cypress!
Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for your patience. I’ve shared your info with the team. 🙏

Could you also try running Coral Island with DirectX 11 to see if it helps?

How to do it:
• In Steam, right-click Coral Island → Properties
• Under General, find Launch Options
• Type: -dx11
• Close the window, restart Steam, and launch the game

This forces the game to start with DirectX 11 and might improve stability. Let us know how it goes!

@zenith leaf That worked for awhile, but now its back to randomly freezing while play. I suppose, on the upside, its not locking upnthe whole computer anymore, but ive lost my current day 3 times now...

Hi there @stark cypress , I'm also part of the team and I'm here to follow up on the issue! Can you confirm if the issue is still happening after the most recent update (v1.2b-1244)?
