New Game with the update. Just created 4 Furnaces and it will not take ore.

The message to created the ore but the right click nor the alternate I put in settings "Y" with make the furnace take the ore that I am holding. I tried it with 5 of the ore and then all of the ore and nothing worked. It would not work with ore I had nor from ore bought from the blacksmith. I cant get any of the furnaces to take any ore at all with the right click of the mouse nor the "Y". I had trouble with the Kiln as well as it would not recognize stone but it would take scrap. I don't have any alternate to try with the furnace as it only will accept ore.
I cant do a recording that would mean anything since you cannot see me clicking the left mouse button. I thought it was my mouse at first but it works fine for everything else. I'm on v1.2-1238 loaded from Steam. PC with keyboard and mouse controls. In a "shed" where I created the machines.

Just to confirm, furnace needs coal with the ore to smelt

Well aware of that and had coal in the chest (marked as universal).next to the furnace

Also no dependencies and the kiln would not accept rock, only scrap.

Was the coal in your backpack/personal inventory when smelting ore? You need the coal and ore in your backpack if you're directly inputting ore into the furnace. Furnaces can only pull items from adjacent auto chests not regular chests.

Regarding the issue with using Stone on a Kiln, would you be able to record a quick video of yourself placing it into the Kiln? That would really help us spot any small details that might have been missed during your attempt and better understand what’s going on!
