Lumina wand ? Why so slow, tips or tricks?

Is there a way to speed up lumina wand use? the ring for tool speed doesn't look like it makes it very speedy. It's dreadfully slow with plot size and the sprinklers are basically a non-starter. Am I missing something? Or does it just suck until the orchestras are completed?

i'm a newbie that started playing in MP so my gem supply is very low, are some gems better than others to get the enchantment bar up? or all geodes worth looking for?
