#Game crashes at random

Reproduction Steps: This happens randomly while either exploring the town, farming, during dialogue. I haven't found any way to reproduce the issue apart from just playing the game. The music just keeps on playing but the cursor and whole screen freezes. Alt-tabbing in and out of the game sort of works if no other window is open. Task manager shows the application as "Not responding" and I have to end the task from there to close it.

Repro Rate: This occurs every 2-3 in-game days, usually in the mornings interestingly enough.

**Game Platform: **Steam using a Desktop PC

Game Version: V1.2-1238

Input Mode: Keyboard and Mouse

PC and GPU info: (CPU - AMD Ryzen 8700G) - (GPU - AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB)

Crash Log: A crash log is not being created.

In the attachments you can find my save file, a video of one of the crashes I managed to record, screenshots of my in-game settings as well as hardware info.

Another occurrence but happening way later in the day this time. On this occasion I used "-corelimit=1" under the Steam launch options. What I found was that the game was running quite well but then after 2-3 in-game days it started to stutter a lot more (first on the farm, then also indoors and in the cave) so I don't know whether there is either a process stuck or a memory leak somewhere causing the game to eventually crash.

Hello @bright nimbus,
Thank you for sharing your findings with us, and so sorry that the freezing issue interrupted your gameplay. 🙇‍♀️

To better understand the freeze issue, could you please try the following next time it happens:

  1. While the freeze is happening, open Task Manager → go to the Processes tab → take a screenshot or photo and share it with us.

  2. Could you also record another video with the FPS overlay turned on, so we can check if there’s any significant FPS drop?

-Press the Command Center button on the left side of your device.
-Tap on Real-time Monitor to enable the overlay.
-The overlay will show CPU/GPU usage, FPS, temperature, and battery level.
-You can tap it again to cycle through different views and move it to a spot that doesn’t block your gameplay.

These details will help us see what’s happening in the background while the freeze occurs. We really appreciate your help! 🙌

I played for around 2 hours so far without any crash so that was a plus. There is a huge amount of lag that happens as the days progress however. I took these screenshots. The playtime stamp is at the top left and the cpu/gpu stats at the top right. The 99%'s decrease dramatically over time and it creates a hitch/stutter which I have added two smaller videos in the attachment for you to observe for yourself.

Ok, the game crashed again this evening. I have attached the video of it happening with the GPU/CPU stats as requested. I also have attached a screenshot of task manager.

I had another crash this morning. I have added a logfile from a piece of software I used called ProcMon or Process Monitor. This shows every call that is being made from software. The game froze around the 12:32 minute mark but I decided to leave it running and then it crashed at the 12:47 mark. The csv can be read using excel for best readability.

I believe to have found the source of the issue and have managed to find a temporary fix.

Potential Issue Source: From the Logfile that I have attached I can see that on the time of the crash these specific events were happening. I cross reference this with another crash I had later today and those events were an exact match. I have searched for these events in the entire log and even though there are other occurrences of the events themselves they are different from the bit at the end where it states the Length, the seqnum and the connid. Whenever this particular event is being triggered which is completely at random, the game will freeze and then crash.

Temporary workaround: I have added Coral Island to Windows defender firewall and blocked any incoming and outgoing TCP Traffic. Doing this I have checked the event logs again and found that by doing this it is unable to send this data and therefore doesn't seem to trigger the event causing the game to freeze and crash. I have since been able to play the game for 3 hours straight without a single freeze and crash.

I can't 100% prove that this is the cause of the issue as I could just have been lucky and the game just hasn't froze and crashed so please do check the data I provided and confirm for yourselves whether I am onto something here. If you keep this post open a bit longer I will be able to confirm later whether I have had any more crashes or not since applying my temporary workaround.

If you need any further info from me in the meantime feel free to give me a nudge as I'm more than happy to help get this resolved.

Just to confirm I have played another 7 hours without any crashes and many in-game days so I'm very certain that this particular communication between the game and the server is the cause of the crash. As to what data is being sent back and forth I obviously can't check my end.

I allowed network traffic from and to coral island again in the firewall and the game crashed again so it's that what is causing the issue for me which is a shame because I can't make use of multiplayer/coop like this..

Hello @bright nimbus,
I’m so sorry for the late reply, and thank you so much for sharing the details along with the workaround you’ve found. This is really helpful!

When you allowed network traffic to Coral Island again in the firewall and the game crashed, did you see a pop-up window from Unreal Engine, or did the game just freeze and close by itself?

Thanks again for your support!

# bright nimbus There was no pop up window and it creates no crash log unfortunately

Ahh, I see! Thank you so much for keeping us updated.

As a general stability step, you might also want to try lowering the in-game graphics settings (from Epic to High/Medium) to see if that reduces the frequency of freezes, but we’ll make sure to pass along your findings about the network events for the team to investigate more closely.

We really appreciate your time testing and sharing these details with us—it’s a big help. Please keep us updated if you notice any new patterns!
