#Unreal Engine crash after selecting save file to play (Steam)

On my new laptop I've always had an Unreal Engine crash upon launching the game from Steam, but was able to work around that by running it as an administrator from the .exe file. Then after this update, the game will launch but every time I hit play and select a save file, the game crashes after appearing to load for a few seconds. I get the exact same crash that says "unhandled exception: exception_access_violation reading address 0x0000000000000000" every time. It also happens after the character creator when trying to start a new game.

I've tried multiple fixes, including verifying files on steam, checking firewall settings, doing a clean install of my NVIDIA graphics driver, using -dx11 and -dx12 in the steam launch options, turning off full-screen optimization, running in compatibility mode, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and nothing has made any change.

Reproduction Steps: Launch game, select "play" from main menu, select save file to load, loading screen comes up as normal but produces an unreal engine 4 crash after a few seconds.

Reproduction Rate: 100%, every time I attempt to play the game after the update.
