Tried to take this out of the chest but it ended up floating instead. I removed the chest and all the items in it but - the bar remains floating. Is this a bug? Is there a way to get that bar?

I think it is a bug. When I walked away from it the bars ended up in my inventory. 😲

not a bug, it's a feature in prep for multiplayer. If you drag any item from your inventory to the edge of the screen it will drop in the world.
You can pick it back up just by walking by
