I got to the bottom on the first cave and am not able to interact with the stone to summon the the first little guy. I have met the chieftain and triggered that already. I am playing on PC with the latest updates.

@cobalt bear I would add that a video showing the issue and your quest log would be helpful. You do have Free Earth Giant Quest?
