I dont mind the events too much. They have taken a bight out of a strawberry patch, ruined both a row of beets and artichokes but now I am upset. This last one (Spring Day 1 year 2) took out one of 2 Durian trees fully grown and just about to finally produce. I was excited to finally finish the Mural as all I am missing is a darned Durian. Now I am not sure. I have one planted in the Greenhouse but it is not fully grown yet so it looks like waiting yet again. Here there was a whole big field it could of hit with nothing yet planted but no...it just had to take out a fruit tree about to produce. My suggestion is the should not hit buildings or Trees. Anything else is fair game.

And also you can use backup and go back a day before the event and it won't happen

I tried that and it still happened to the exact same tree. Thinking it might, I finally just cut down the tree to at least get the wood and fiber but it was a waste of a tree that had been growing for almost of full game year.
