#[SOLVED] My game randomly crashes every day on my PC

My mom and I are getting really frustrated while playing. Every time we manage to get something important, the game crashes randomly for no apparent reason. It has happened to us in different situations, and playing like this is stressful and anxiety-inducing because you just want to save your progress so you don’t lose everything — at the very least.

But you can't do that because the game only saves when you go to sleep and the day changes. It doesn't have manual or auto-save, which is something that’s really needed nowadays. People who work don’t have all the time in the world to play, and sometimes you just need to save because you have to leave for work. You can’t always wait until the end of the in-game day, and if you do wait, sometimes the game crashes and you lose all your progress — and it’s honestly very frustrating.

I’m really glad to see that with each update, bugs are being fixed and things are improving, but I’m genuinely asking — please, in the next update or as soon as possible, add a manual save and auto-save option in the game menu.

That way, if the game crashes, you don’t lose everything you’ve done, and you feel less tempted to curse the divine order or Murphy’s Law.

Thanks for reading and for creating Coral Island, because it’s my favorite life simulation game alongside Fae Farm.

Hi, I just read your reply and I'm finally getting back to you—sorry it took me a while, I've been swamped with work and haven’t had the time. But now that I do, here we go.

I double-checked both of my devices again, and all the drivers are up to date on both. I’m also running the latest version of Windows 11 Pro, and I even updated the BIOS on both machines.

One device has AMD graphics, the other has NVIDIA—both are fully updated to the latest versions.

Besides Steam, I’ve got a few more game launchers installed on both devices:

🔸Steam

🔸Battle.net

🔸GOG GALAXY

🔸EA App

🔸Epic Games

🔸Amazon Games

🔸Ubisoft Connect

I’ve made sure none of them auto-start when I boot up either of my PCs—just trying to keep things under control so apps don’t clash with each other, just in case.

I verified the Steam files on both devices and everything seemed fine, but I still went ahead and uninstalled everything, wiped it all, and reinstalled Steam from scratch on both.

But yeah, I’m still getting random crashes on both devices. Yesterday it actually worked great for a while—no crashes—which almost never happens. So sometimes it runs fine, and other times it just closes randomly… which is most days, honestly.

I really hope the next update includes both manual and auto-save features (besides just sleeping), so we don’t have to keep replaying the same day over and over and grinding to get everything back after a crash. It gets pretty frustrating.

Anyway, I’m attaching the screenshots you asked for with the settings/config for both devices—hope they help.

Thanks for reading!

After verifying the Steam files and reinstalling Steam, could you also share the latest crash log and your save file with us here? Also, have you tried reinstalling Coral Island as well?

As for the feedback, we’d love to hear your thoughts! You can share suggestions in this channel: https://discord.com/channels/623097219628662784/623123701952544797.

Hey! Yeah, when I uninstalled Steam and Coral Island completely from both of my devices, I took the chance to reinstall everything from scratch. I even deleted the registry files and those hidden temp files that Windows sometimes keeps around. I'm gonna attach my latest log file and my last save file from each device in this message, and I'll also check out that Discord section you mentioned to talk more about the game over there.

Also, there's something I’ve been thinking about—don’t know if it’s related to the issue, but just in case I’ll mention it.

Epic Games has its own Unreal Engine installer. Sometimes I’ve had it installed (to make mods for some games), and other times I’ve uninstalled it. But even when it’s uninstalled, Epic still leaves a little folder behind with some files. I don’t think that should affect anything, especially since I’ve got other Unreal Engine games that run just fine… but who knows? Sometimes updates (whether from Windows or any app) don’t go perfectly and mess with stuff.

I always double-check for that kind of thing, but I figured I’d bring it up just in case—it’d suck if that turned out to be the issue and I didn’t say anything. Hope all this info helps. Thanks for reading!

Hello @lunar mountain,
Thank you again for sharing the details with us!

Just to clarify—may I ask if you’re using any external applications, such as mods or trainer tools, while playing Coral Island?

We’ve checked your save file, but unfortunately, we couldn’t replicate the issue on our end. If you're able to reproduce the crash again, could you please share a video of it happening? This would be especially helpful since the crash log didn’t generate a full report.

Also, when the crash happens on your PC, do you have any other applications or browsers open in the background?

We really appreciate your help!

Hi again!
After doing some investigating on my own, I managed to fix the random crashing issue in the game.

When the game crashed, I had a chance to check the error log, and I noticed this line:

<CrashType>GPUCrash</CrashType>
<ErrorMessage>LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 198] Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost.

When I saw that, and realized the cause seemed to be D3D, I started messing around with my save file and different settings, but the game kept crashing. That made me think a bit deeper, and eventually I figured out the solution.

I went into Steam, opened the launch options for Coral Island, and typed:

-dx11

Then I saved the changes, closed Steam, and also restarted my PC and my OnexFly (I was having the same issue on both devices).

And now it works perfectly. Basically, I noticed that the game doesn’t run with the correct DirectX version by default—it tries to launch with DirectX 12.

But when it runs with DirectX 12, it eventually crashes at random times with no clear reason. By adding -dx11 in the Steam launch options, the game launches in DirectX 11 mode directly, and the crashing stops. I've been playing for over a week now and haven't had a single crash since.

So for some reason, DirectX 12 compatibility seems to be problematic. I haven’t figured out exactly why, but at least I wanted to share this solution in case it helps someone else.

I’m also attaching a screenshot of the Steam launch option so you can see exactly how I set it up.

Looking forward to hearing back from you, and I hope this can help more people out!

Thanks!
