The auto collecter will only ever give one product. If you have a perk that lets you get more than one thing, the collecter does not use that

#

You also get no XP for using anything auto

Bit of a PITA doing it all yourself though especially once you're juggling two farms

I don't even bother starting to work on the underwater farm until year 2. by then, I've got everything to level 10 anyway so I don't need to stress about using automation

there's just too much else to work on to worry about a second farm

I do think the animal perks work. I regularly get 5 sometimes 6 of a product even though I only have 4 of that animal in the barn/coop. The animal automation works better/with less quality loss than the crop automation.
