#Game won't open after installing on new device

I am playing on a nitro 5, Intel Core i5-10300H | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 | 12GB RAM | 256GBSSD
(I got additional storage or ram I can't remember which.)
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, the crash happens either when I open the initial game, or when I get to the main menu and load a file. I tried making a new file, still crashed that one too (and character creation was very messed up?)

so it happens 100% of the time. I cannot load my game.

I am on the current game version.

I hope this is fixable 😭

Hiya @valid granite. So sorry that you ran into a crash. Could you also share your save and crash log file here?

To locate the crash log, you can follow these steps:

  • Copy-paste this file path into Windows Explorer: %localappdata%\ProjectCoral\Saved\Crashes
  • Sort the files by date modified and compress all the folders corresponding to the date you played into zip files.
    As for the save file, it's located inside the SaveGames folder under the Saved one (sav. files).

As for the save file, you can copy and paste this file path into your Windows Explorer:
%localappdata%\ProjectCoral\Saved\SaveGames

You can compress the Savegames folder in a ZIP file and attach it here.

We have also tried to open both of your save files and we're unable to replicate the crash on our end. We can open it without any issues.

May I ask if you have tried to verify the game? You can do it by following these steps:

  • Open Steam → Go to Library
  • Right-click Coral Island → Select Properties
  • Go to Installed Files → Click Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Restart Steam and try launching the game

Ahh, I see. Could you please send the newest crash log file here?
Additionally, could you please try to change the graphics card used to the High Performance one for Coral Island?

Here are the detailed steps:

  • Type "Graphics Settings" in the Start menu
  • Click Desktop App
  • Select the Coral Island application
  • Click Options
  • Set the Graphic preference to High Performance

If you're using any mods, please disable or remove them to see if that resolves the issue. Additionally, you can also ensure your graphics card drivers are up to date, and you could also try to reinstall it.

Additionally, about what you mentioned earlier regarding the character creation being really messed up—could you share a few more details about what happened?

unfortunately it was upon launching the game, I am no longer able to get into the character creation. For some reason it was just a one time thing it let me get to that step.
there was a lot of missing/out of place assets

I did transfer my save file, yes. I played the same save file on a seperate device and it still works 😔

I see. Could you try these steps to see if it helps resolve the issue, Clementine?

  1. Turn off Steam Cloud for Coral Island
    -Open your Steam Library
    -Right-click on Coral Island > choose Properties
    -Go to the General tab
    -Under Steam Cloud, uncheck the option:
    "Keep game saves in the Steam Cloud for Coral Island"

  2. Move your save files
    -Go to this folder on your PC:
    %LocalAppData%\ProjectCoral\Saved\SaveGames
    -Move everything in the SaveGames folder to another location outside the Coral Island folder (e.g., your Desktop)

  3. Verify game files

  4. Launch the game and check if the issue still occurs.
