how do fruitsaplings/trees work? i've seen some people's greenhouses with regular plants surrounding the fruit trees on all sides, but i thought they needed to have a 5x5 tile space clear - like in the image shown. can you plant things around them once they're fully grown? or are the 4x4 fruit seedlings what people are able to put regular crops around?

Fruit trees need a 3x3 space clear, and only while placing, and potentially growing (cannot currently verify the latter).
Once they are fully grown, other crops or decor can be placed in the areas surrounding them.
They need a 5x5 space, if you are planting them next to the border f a plantable area - the greenhouse border, or the edges of the farm. Otherwise, the same still applies.
ahh okay i see, thank you!!
Can confirm you can plant or place items around a fruit tree as soon as you have it planted. It will not affect growth. you can even use the architect desk (not in the greenhouse, though) to place grass tiles UNDER the tree.
Thank you for posting; I wondered this also.
@silent lake how do you get the green low grass? I haven't seen that yet in the game. ?
It's the Baroque grass floor tile
