Is there a way to complete a quest without all the items being the same rarity? I just spent time getting 4 lemons for Jim but two are bronze and two are gold. Do I need to cancel the quest or is there a workaround? I've had this issue with other quests but I'm a bit frustrated that I waited on two trees to grow for this one without a solution.

No, since all items must be delivered in a single action, they can only occupy a single slot in the inventory. You can 'work around' this for a longer-term quest or temple offerings by using the Slime of Transmutation machine, which increases the quality of any items put in it, but for errand quests, you must have the exact amount in a single quality.
