#Ranching XP not working?

I've noticed that the ranching mastery level hasn't been rising at all over two full seasons. I have a full barn and coop, and my animals are in good moods and producing products. I have the auto collector, temp machine, and auto petter in both. Do those machines not qualify as taking care of animals or is this a bug?
