  • Reproduction Steps: Every time I talk to Semeru now after finishing the first orchestra altar, his dialogue repeats. It has been about a year in game, I have finished all the orchestra altars, and his dialogue is not changed, not even after raising his heart level.
  • Repro Rate: Every conversation. Dialogue: “I noticed that the animals are getting calmer as more of the orchestra is restored.
    We're really making progress.”
  • Game Platform: Steam

I also have this problem with Semeru repeating the same dialogue except its "The Surface is so different from what I imagined" even though he's no longer on land and I have Semeru at 9 hearts. Denali also repeating dialogue about being on land plus several other NPCs (Rafael, Pablo, Scott, Mark) repeating dialogue about the wind gate since I opened it or vines on the pufferfish office (Noah) and I have those NPCs at 8+ hearts.

Reproduction Steps:
Semeru dialogue has been the same statement 98% of the time since I initiated the Starlet Expedition Quest 1 in Fall YR1. On land, his dialogue varies slightly, but he usually says "the surface is different than what I imagined." I currently have Semeru at 10 hearts.

(Denali and Agung also started repeating dialogue after Quest 2 in Winter YR1 - I just started Summer YR2)

this is also happening to me! despite progressing several heart levels and completing finishing the orchestra plotline, semeru never says anything to me other than “I noticed that the animals are getting calmer as more of the orchestra is restored.
We're really making progress.”
(i am at 8 hearts with him, given him the locket, in year 3, i finished the orchestra quest 2 seasons ago)

I’ve got a similar issue with multiple NPCs, like Scott/Pablo/Rafael only discussing the wind gate - Scott is at 10 hearts while the other two are at 6. The romanceable merpeople are repeating their lines about going to the surface, but I’m not sure if that’s intentional since I’m on the “wait for the expedition dates” step of the questline

  • A screenshot of your relationship tab with Sumeru

  • When do you first notice the repeated dialogue and how long (in-game) has it been since then?

I have this same issue with multiple townies. It started with Theo, then Scott, Millie, Noah. I'm afraid to talk to anyone for fear they'll get stuck too. I've tried gifts, hang outs, leveling up hearts, nothing changes the dialog.
I'm in Summer YR 3 and this started back in Winter YR 2.
Playing on Xbox series X, v1.1b-1232.

I am in Spring of Year 2, but this problem began in Fall of Year 1. It is occurring with multiple townies, though I noticed it with Semeru first. I'm currently trying to share my save file, but the file path is not working on my computer when I copy and paste it. It could be because I use cloud based saving on Steam.

Scott has been repating this dialogue most of the time for over an in-game month since opening the wind gate. I've since opened the fire gate but he is still saying it - I haven't yet checked the other NPCs who were also stuck talking about the wind gate (Rafael/Pablo/Connor/Kira were the ones I noticed). Semeru has now been repeating his surface line for roughly a game week, since the first surface expedition.

I'm having the same problem with Scott, Pablo, and Rafael repeating the wind cavern dialogue since I opened it up (about 2 in-game weeks ago). The only time any of them say anything different seems to be the day before or on festival days, and then they'll say their festival/upcoming festival dialogue.

I started a new play thru after the quality of life update, and that's when I ran into most of the npc bugs. Dialogues repeating, townies just randomly disappearing and being unavailable. As far as when in the game the dialogue started repeating, for me it didn't start until I was working on the town attractions. I hadn't put as much time into the npcs earlier on as I usually do, but I did talk to them on occasion and didn't notice anything off before the attractions. I got to town rank S and now everyone is talking about the mural. Just the mural. I married Theo and the first thing he mentions is the mural, but since I can talk to him multiple times, he says other things too. Strangely, he doesn't mention the mural if it's raining.
I also cant talk to the princess on land at all. There's just no option for it. Semeru and Denali work fine, Mira not so much.

I only started playing the game around the same time as the update so I cannot confirm if it was an issue beforehand. I did not notice stuck dialogue issues with earlier events like the water gate. Since my first comments here, a couple of my NPCs, Rafael and Pablo, are now stuck on fire gate dialogue instead of wind gate. Others, especially Connor/Scott that I’ve noticed, are still on wind gate. Semeru and Denali have now been stuck on their expedition dialogue for a game month, but the princess seems to be ok

I am also experiencing a ton of repeated dialogue -- while I don't know what the code looks like, it looks like there are certain priority events NPCs try to react to but those flags feel like they're stuck. Examples from my my game:

  • Surya (spouse), Anne, Paul, and Sunny all comment about how the museum has a full collection of fish. This means my first spouse dialog nearly every day is about fish. (I know he's a marine biologist but take it down a notch.)
  • Pablo, Noah, and Yuri always comment about how I've finished all the attractions.

I'm almost positive this is new because I would have gone nuts if it started when I was unlocking gates.

I am almost positive it did, but I couldn't tell you definitively. I do know that occasionally the fish dialogue is overridden for a day (the day after the birth of the first kid, first day of spring) and then the next day it's back to this. It really feels that whatever code is supposed to flag dialogue to ensure you get the relevant lines is just not being reset after the dialogue shows.

Oh, lol, of course -- I don't remember the specific in-game dates, but I know that they also happened in that order in the game. However, I reached rank S in my game on Spring 11 (which was also the day my character's son was born, oops) and since then Surya's first dialogue every day has been asking about the new mural. The save file is here, but it's Spring 15 on this file and he started saying it on Spring 12.

I also started a new game (since I can't 100% it yet) and I'll be watching for repeated dialogue and jotting down notes if it helps? (I'm a product manager in real life and this is how I want to spend my day off 🤣 )

Reproduction Steps: ** Like others have experienced, the majority of the time I speak to Semeru he repeats his “The surface is so different from what I imagined” dialogue.
Repro Rate: About 95% of the time. I tried to change time of date and locations I was speaking to him, increased hearts etc., but more often than not it’s the same. Once in a blue moon I do get a different piece of dialogue, but its rare—a couple of times in the mermaid tavern, and once in the palace. I did get festival related dialogue both before and after the Cherry Blossom festival, but then it reverted back to that one line.

Screenshots attached—I took a few in different places/times showing the repeating dialogue. They are from Spring 12, Spring 14, and Spring 16 (Year 3) to show it happens on both land and in the sea.

I first noticed it while waiting for the second part of chaperone quests (Merfolk Chaperone Part 2); this was in Fall Year 2 for me. At first I actually thought maybe that was why it was repeating. I am currently in Spring Year 3, have finished that questline, and its still repeating.

Currently at 7 hearts with Semeru; the repeating dialogue started when I was probably only 3 or 4 hearts.

I haven’t noticed it with other NPCs (yet?) I didn’t notice it before the v1.1b-1233 update, but I also didn’t start the Merfolk Chaperone quests until after the update.

Update: After testing a bit on my own, the first dialogue for the ones I mentioned are always the same, but after the 2 hr chat cooldown the dialogue is different like it should be. So its possible just the first chat instance is broken for a few NPCs

Sadly, it doesn't seem to be fixed as of yet. They're probably still troubleshooting to see what is causing the error, so hopefully it'll come out in the next patch! 😄

I hope this gets fixed soon. I haven’t turned in starlet expedition requirements coz I’m worried his dialogue might just repeat too.
