Fertilize after planting seed

I was wondering if it should be possible to fertilize after you have planted a seed or do you have to do it before you plant the seed? I'm playing on a windows computer. I'm watching a guy on youtube play Coral Island on Xbox, and he could fertilize after planting a seed

You can do it after you plant, but it has to be the same day. Once the plant starts growing, you can't fertilize it
