Using mouse and keyboard, attempt to split any selection. The game will behave as if you have selected the item "above" it in the inventory, wrapping to the bottom row if the top is selected.
This occurs 100% of the time when using split selection from inventory, but doesn't seem to happen at Sam's shop

bought a ton of seeds from sam, then was splitting them up to put in sprinkler attachements
I probably had Sam's shop open for like 10 minutes, I was trying to decide how much of which seeds to buy. I definetely bought too much and sold some back, using the split stack feature. I also divided some stacks up with the shop still open, and scrolled up and down his inventory repeatedly. Then I went back to my farm, cleared out a bunch of land (16x Mk2 sprinkler's worth and 13 Mk3 sprinkler's worth) and started loading autoplanters using right click. When I realized it was planting while paused, I started using the split stack to take 80 seeds at a time off my cabbages to load my sprinkler. I did one stack of 24 potatoes like that, then opened my inventory to make several stacks all at once. That's when I noticed the bug. Closing the game a third time seems to have resolved it (previously I restarted the game twice and got different versions of the bug)
I poked around a little with chests, splitting stacks up inside my farm chests and trying to reproduce the bug, but so far no joy.

Thanks for the update! Could you also tell us, did you immediately check on the issue after restarting? Or did you do any other activity?

The initial restarts were specifically to check if the bug was squashed, so I checked right away that it was still there. Since the bug didn't keep me from playing, I played a few in game days as I normally would. It wasn't until you responded that I booted it up again to check and it was gone. I'll probably play a little tonight to mess with it
I did not reboot my computer or put it to sleep between experiencing the bug and it going away

Tenative reproduction steps:
- Put at least 20 seeds in sprinkler with the auto planting feature
- Without closing the sprinkler, hold right click on the stack of seeds as they're planting
- Place the seeds in inventory
- Close the sprinkler and open the player's inventory
- Stack splitting should be bugged
I'm going to finish my day, restart and see if I can reproduce on video
