Mmm if your pet following you, you need to pet them as they want your attention, after that they will go their own way

But they continue to constantly bark. But I guess the most frustrating thing is that it's not possible to try any of the other pets. The NPCs should at least say something like "your choice is permanent and you cannot give away your pet"

When it comes to the pets following you around after you pet them, it sounds like something to take to the bug reports. I have no issues with that personally, and I have two cats in the game

Hmm yeah echoing what cellothere said, maybe the pets is buggy for you, as we did redo the codebase in prep for multiplayer. You can report this to our bug channel here #1222876094190059542, there's a guideline in the channel you can follow to provide us with the issue information.

Sorry I'm confused. I understand that pets will "go away" if you pet them. But they still hang around the farm and the dog barking noise is annoying. I want to sell/remove my pets and/or choose a quieter pet, but that doesn't seem possible.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's not a bug right? It seems like a design flaw. All other farming games I've played, including SV, allow removal of pets.

I'm happy to report a bug if there's an actual bug.

Just as a warning, if you do not like the dogs barking, you will also not like the fox noises. I'd go with one of the rabbits or maybe the lizard.
