Cannot delete duplicate items

I clicked the mayor's hat next to the tree on the beach twice, and got two in my bag. I gave one to the mayor and completed the quest. The second one is still in my bag and I cannot delete it. I also have an extra fishing pole and extra axe somehow, and i cannot move them to the trash can icon.
