My inventory was full when I found it but for some reason as I get closer after making some space, it won't pick up? Even after an in game day, it won't pick up.

It's unfortunately not just chests - it's every miniaturized item. I theorize it has to do with an item's elevation; if it's above ground level, it'll hover there and won't go into your inventory, or so my experience has gone. You can see I have space here to pick up this trash, but you can also see its shadows, meaning it's above Z-level 0 and thus won't go in.
Reproduction Steps: Have a full inventory (or not even that, just have a bunch of miniaturized items on the ground) and try to pick something up. You'll get some, but not all, as some are raised off Z-Level 0 in the process.

They should get picked up when you restart the game, not just sleep. Not a fix for the bug, but you can at least get the items!

from my experience, the items get 'stuck' like that when you have 2+ different items start zooming to you and you only have 1 open slot, so that your inventory fills up when 1+ item is mid zoom
