Title: Every time I go to the blacksmith or go to bed, the game gives me the option to retrieve my lost tools. They aren't lost, they are just in a chest.

It's not a bug, this is just a way to retrieve your tools. This can be done at the blacksmith, beach shack and your bed. Whether they are lost or not. If they're lost/gone/missing from the game you will get a new pair (and If I'm not mistaken the option will be "Retrieve tools").
If they're in a chest - you will just receive the needed tool. (Use example, you went to upgrade a tool but forgot it in a chest. Use find my tools and get an axe, can, pickaxe or sythe in your inventory) @naive panther

But they aren't lost. I know exactly where they are. I'd get it if you dropped them out of your inventory or something, but if I put them in a chest I know where they are. If I forgot them when trying to go upgrade, that's my fault and I go back and get it. The word find in these dialog boxes indicate that they are lost.

But this is a feature to get tools and just overall QOL thing. If you don't get a duplicate set of tools after pressing finding the tools then it's not a bug
