- I opened the game, and my gold-level axe was missing. I checked all the potential places and options for retrieving tools, but no dice. It was being upgraded at the ironsmith before the update, and it disappeared when I loaded the game after the update.

May I ask if you have tried the "help my tools" feature by right-clicking with the mouse on your bed, just like when you go to sleep in the game?

@cerulean pewter You can try to check if the axe is still upgrading (which it is probably).
First of all, you can click on "upgrade tools" and see if there is a notification that axe is still upgrading.
Or try to sleep for few days and then try to retrieve upgraded tools.

I did and I don't see a notification that it is being upgraded. The game is acting like I don't have it anywhere. I'll try to sleep for a few more days and see if that works.
