I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to put this. The tooltip for this says a bronze pickaxe can break it, but I forgot to stop by after upgrading to bronze and am now on silver. It doesn't seem like I can break it with silver, is there any way to remove this since I upgraded past bronze?

Yeah, it's a bit finnicky about removing it. There shouldn't be anything in the game that works with a lower tier tool that does not work with a higher tier one.
Just try standing and aiming in place, whack a bunch of times; if it doesn't work try standing and/or aiming differently.
