Is farming obligatory?

Am this close to buy the game as a b-day gift to myself tomorrow and am kinda unsure because I love cosy/action games but can't spend too much time farming before getting bored. So can I just be a diver and spelunk caves, or I need to farm on the daily like Stardew? Thanks in advance 🙂

A big portion of the game involves farming, as it makes up a big part of the game's gameplay loop.

While theoretically possible to focus on other things, your major money makers will still be farming and ranching, so 😅
