specifically regarding selling a regular golden egg for achievement (and in yr2, milk) ... if i don't pet/feed/letout an animal that's already at max hearts for a period of time will it decay so i get the worse produce, or is it capped at max hearts?

Stop petting, let them out when it's raining, such like that.
Neglecting feed though will probably make them sick though

Letting them out in rain and remove the heater during summer or winter has been my best bet.. everything else takes like a month or so and is so annoying to wait for xD

as long as it's possible! my concern was that because i had maxed out hearts with my golden chicken i would have to play till i could win with another chicken in yr3 to get a golden egg to sell
