The most recent update on the 30th of August made it so that Coral Island is the same version of the game on all platforms, so there's nobody who's 'behind' at the moment.
As for future updates - Stairway has not publicly released any details about the situation with their publisher, but until it's resolved, we may not know anything. We know that they want to continue updating on the various consoles, but it will be much more difficult to get them out until then.
Multiplayer is still planned, but we don't know much else right now.
