#Crashing upon every launch attempt

Reproduction steps: i recently had my pc upgraded to an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400F CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz processor type and a GeForce GT 730 graphics card in order to run the game better. I had it professionally upgraded by an It specialist and he said everything should run correctly (he has also worked on my PC before so I trust in his credibility and abilities). The game would run perfectly fine before the upgrade (just a little laggy because i only had an i3 processor as opposed to the i5 i have now).
Repro rate: 100% of the time when opening the game (doesnt make it past the title card showing)
Game platform: Steam PC
Game version: 1.1 (latest update downloaded, but failing to run)
PC specs: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400F CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz // GeForce GT 730 // 8192MB RAM

I posted how I fixed this issue in another thread, give that stuff a try (similar display settings and backup loading is available on PC).

Graphic issues are a very common reason for chronic crashes, and from your crash log it seems like it may be exactly that.

Tweak some settings on your graphics card and OS and try, try again.

#

Also, make sure your drivers are all a match for the game - sometimes the most recent drivers conflict with some games and it requires you to download different driver versions. This is all par for the course and honestly, if it's a local PC issue for you, there is nothing the devs can even do to help you besides the classic IT advice, "Did you try powering it off and back on?"

Hello @foggy vale ! Can you check if your graphic card driver is up to date?

foggy vale
#

I have checked the graphics card yes, the IT guy made sure everything was updated before he left T_T i dont know what could be the issue

foggy vale
#

I opened a different game and it said my graphics card was at like a 511 but the game needed a 700 something? The game still ran so i didnt think there were any issues

#

I'll check it again later when i get home but im in class right now

okay i checked my pc specs again and i found these things:

  • drivers are all updated apparently
  • directx is version 12 instead of the recommended version 10 on coral islands steam page
#

is my pc being on directx version 12 a problem? i dont know how to change it back or if i even should

foggy vale
#

Im researching what i can and everyone is saying that the GT 730 is an ancient piece of tech that doesnt have any supported drivers to update with, but the steam reqs of the game says GT 660 minimum—which is an older card ??

#

I dont want to be rude or rush the admins but im so confused with this issue do i just get a different graphics card or? 😭

foggy vale
#

So everyone i approach is telling me its a simple fix but no one can seem to fix it 💀

#

If no one can help me can i atleast get like a verified list of all the gtx graphic cards that have been proven to work on coral island? I saved up for all these upgrades and hired a licensed IT professional to install it so i wouldnt mess it up and i cant even play the one game i bought all of this for 😭

#

If i have to buy another graphics card then i guess thats the only thing i can do. Better to pay to actually be able to play than pay for nothing

# foggy vale I have checked the graphics card yes, the IT guy made sure everything was update...

Thank you for sending us the details! Based on the crash log, there seems to be a compatibility problem with the device's graphics card.
Coral Island doesn’t support Integrated Graphic cards and requires a dedicated graphic card to play.

Please ensure you have the compatible and latest drivers for your graphic card.
Lowering the game's graphic setting will also help reduce the crashes from happening.
If the problem just occurs now, it's because we need more power with every update. Thank you!

Zed,

Try completely reverting to default drivers (usually available on the nVidia site, legacy drivers are generally there somewhere). If those don't work uninstall them and try each driver from oldest to newest. Coral Island uses Unreal Engine 4, according to the crash log (I don't game on PC anymore so I am not totally certain). Newest drivers will be optimized for Unreal Engine 5, so the compatibility issue MIGHT be related somehow.

Again, this is my guess, and may not work. I haven't coded, built PCs or anything like that for a handful of years so am only slightly knowledgeable given the rate at which technology advances. Luckily, it's all basically the same.

But sometimes starting with a clean slate, especially with graphics cards and OS issues is the best way to just fix it, rather than put band aids on cancers.

#

Also, just to cover your bases, make sure the executable for Coral Island has admin rights for your PC so it can access all the necessary files freely. Sometimes with issues like yours, failing to gather or render an asset, or something along those lines can cause fatal errors.

#

Regarding your question about Direct X, things may be different now but from what I remember newer versions support legacy software.

Ive tried using every driver i could find on any site to update it, every single one says its incompatible
