My character has been married to Semeru for a short while and at some point I noticed some odd behavior that I'm not sure if it's a bug or not. I'm afraid to play further if the save is corrupt though xD
If your character is also married to Semeru, does Semeru sometimes go to the ocean or is he staying on land all the time? If he does go to the ocean, does he also stay there overnight?

My character is married to Semeru as well he lives with you and basically moves on land to my knowledge he just walks around town unless you have children I have not seen him go back to the ocean yet and I have an underwater farm in the beginning stages and he doesn’t seem to go there as well

Yes. he goes back into the Ocean once per Month and stays there Overnight. He'll be back the next day.
