I've been playing on Xbox and I'm considering buying/playing on Steam, however I put considerable time into my Xbox Save (Rank S achieved) and would like to continue that playthrough. I've seen post saying that is possible but not simple/guaranteed. Is that still the case?

That is the case. If you're on game pass you technically CAN port your save, but it will corrupt. The two are almost never on the same version of the game at the same time. So the devs pretty much said if you do it you can't submit bug reports and you're kind of on your own.

Appreciate the response. I'm very much against buying the game again on Steam (can afford it, but I don't want to buy + starting over), so I'll guess I'll leave that save for when (if) they can push updates on Xbox then :/

If you do decide to start over, there are some NG+ saves with different amounts of money you can use.

If you do a NG+ save it's quite easy to catch up as you can buy the ores needed for tool upgrades, barn/coop etc. But ofc you would have to collect everything for the museum again so i totally understand that it's not an option for everyone.
