Tools turned back to stone

I was playing the game, and I finally finished cleaning the ocean. I finished the part with the ocean scene and the roots are all gone. Slept in the game, and got off the game. so it saved, then randomly I got back on the next day I found out all my tool upgrades were gone and they are all back to stone??? I even tried to go to a different back up but my tools are still stone, My inventory I noticed did have different things in there. Is there anyway to fix this and get my upgraded tools back?

What happens if I didn’t notice and already save the game?? My scythe downgraded from gold to bronze… I have to pay and get the materials again??
