Hello, I'm having an issue trying to befriend the mermaids. I gave two flower bouquet to the princess, but her friendship is still at 0 heart. I have tried a few random gifts to other mermaids, and there also was no change in friendship.

I'm also having this issue. I've been trying to make friends with them but all of my hearts for them are still at 0.

Nevermind, I completed that ages ago!
same here, the hearts were locked before but now I can give gifts and it looks like I should be able to progress in friendship. I haven't completed the next mermaid quest (chaperone), so maybe that's the issue ? But if so, why does the game allow you to make gifts if you can't befriend them yet ?

I can't even give gifts! I'm on 1.1-22 or whatver it is, so I'm up to date. Weird!
