They are not going to make Agung romacenable, and Agung is ace, he's not into the player.

Why does he actually have to come up to you to say 'Hey I'm Ace'? Do you also not accept someone irl saying they don't care for romance?

I think its fair enough to be disappointed the character you alpha backed a kickstarter to was very late development announced to be non-romanceable. His in games lines came in later. And not liking how the devs handled it. Ive accepted its not the game for me, but I was curious because I religiously checked those dev blogs and updates so I was surprised if I genuinely missed an ace announcement. The disappointment would still be there, but a straight answer like that from the devs from the get go would have done wonders to soften the blow.
but yeah I mean, it is what it is.

it is a firm no by this point, especially if he's now canonically ace. But Agung was a popular character from literal inception, ppl including myself literally backed the game for him, and the devs did nothing despite his popularity to just mention/announce he wouldn't be romanceable at any reasonable time. It was like 3 years before they released the final line up. and then they didn't say anything further despite the significant backlash and confusion. They added the lines eventually, but Idk why they didn't just clarify when everybody was in confused uproar, or better yet, much earlier when they saw how popular he was.
Its final, I get it. Doesn't mean I can't think the devs should have handled it better.

Its really not. Especially given the vocal backlash and confusion that went on for more than a week, its very clear there was an assumption that Agung would be dateable. Yes it was an assumption, but it was a widely held one and it deserved a response other than him not appearing on the final line up after 3 years to tell confirm it earlier. Dont even get me started on the racial implications of replacing Agung with Semeru, that will turn into an argument.

it also doesnt say he's ace there, which is fine whatever, but ppl seem to claim that they stated that early on which they did not. Hence why ppl were confused.

Its fine. We get it. Its not happening. But u dont get to rewrite what happened just because the devs have confirmed it via text lines, now, much time after the fact. You also dont get to tell ppl they cant be disappointed or that they shouldnt have expected him to be dateable because by that logic the devs should have said something MUCH earlier.

yes, it is on the devs. Why is it so controversial to think the devs should have just said something earlier? If you're making something and ppl clearly are under a incorrect assumption that will lead to disappointment, and even if u truly believe its on them for reading into promotional material and the way u marketed the kickstarter, would u really take no chance in 3 years to just clarify? then act surprised and uncaring when ppl are confused?
Im not saying the devs are terrible people. im saying they could have and should have handled it better, they're professionals.
I dont know why you guys seem intent on coddling them on such a basic notion they could have handled something better.

Agung fans (that know about the whole thing, some are ppl who just got into and dont know the history) have accepted its not happening. why is it so hard to acknowledge a situation could have and should have been handled better by professionals who saw this trainwreck coming from a mile away, choose not to clarify over 3 years, and then couldnt be bothered to just make a statement clarifying why when ppl were confused on the announcement.

because he was one of the most popular characters, both in and out of server. I get they dont read every chat log, but they should have a rough idea of who the favourite characters are and how people are reacting to their cast.
and regardless, why didn't they just say he was ace when they saw the backlash? it lasted over a week. Ur telling me backlash that lasted ur long couldn't have earned a short explanation?

hi, ace person here, and im noticing some perceptions towards ace people that make me a little frustrated so i'd like to offer some clarification

  1. whether or not aguang is ace doesn't actually have any impact on whether or not he is interested in a relationship. ace people can still want to date
  2. aguang says in-game he has no interest in a relationship and prefers to live alone. that's it, there's nothing more to it. whether or not he's aroace is not important here.
  3. if raj, dippa, emma, and other queer characters on the island don't have to say 'im insert identity' when you first meet them then neither should aguang. if the devs haven't outright said their identities, then they shouldn't have to do that for aguang.

and unrelated to asexuality, but let's all remember that you should take everything a game dev says at face-value. that's the best way to avoid getting upset when something doesn't happen the way you think it should.

I think, at best, it might make sense to have an option where, if the player doesn't want romance, they could work toward having a best friend move in. As I think having the ability to hug your best friends should be totally doable in game without having to date them. Hugs for anyone who wants one, with good buds.

So having Agung hangouts at your home underwater or hang out spots at the underwater locations like the tavern, etc, playing chess with the fish, would be awesome for world building.

But yeah, I know it's hard to hear, since we all want chars sometimes who aren't romance-able, but if it's in the lore he doesn't want to date...request a mod.

Good morning, so I kick-started coral island and got my alpha key.. I've been holding off on playing for a long while as I wanted to have the game get more footing. On steam, it's saying the game is not in my library but the alpha version is. Not sure how it what I can do to fix this?
