what is there to do in the savannah? the giants mentioned that there's a giant trapped in a cave but I don't think I have access to it yet. the mushroom trees are cool and I like the out of season forageables but is there anything else to do? also, is there any map of the savannah?

Finish the advanced altar and you can unlock the cave

No in game map bc no portrait artwork exists for it yet 
Majority of Savannah features are end game unlocks
Cave is reward for completing the 3rd/Advanced altar
There will be a shop that unlocks for the new ranch animals, as well as a decor shop & minigame
However, if all you’ve hit for unlocks so far is just doing 18 bundles to get into the map area itself:
- there’s 2 loot machines (gachas) exchange crops for points in them to pull for rewards
- red king arrowana can be fished year round no restrictions
- it’s an additional spawn zone for a few bugs & fish
- some forage too
- mushroom trees you can get the seeds & plant on farm
The gachas between the 2 of them there are 4 (of 10) treasure maps which you can get & then dig for treasure
(Dig once daily per map # if map in your inventory)
