After adding an item to the potluck and attempting to start the main event, nothing happens and if I try again it says the event is over.

I've seen this too. I did the race first that time. Another time, I donated crab before doing the race, but Judge Ross said there was nothing special about the soup. I have not gotten the festival to work properly since the 1.1 update.
