Your old save is ok however some people have reported delays/issues with some of the new items triggers. These are being worked on
Personally after 1500 hours in game- I advocate for
hold on to that save but start fresh now. Go back to old save later

Yes. You don't have to delete that file to start over
Just hit play game
Then at the bottom pick new game.
You can have 99 save files
